Role of the larger committee:
We need to reduce our dependence on Kate and at the same time give the members of the larger KBA committee who are NOT Master List Leaders jobs to do.
Possibilities:
- contacting publishers of winning books (congratulations!) and nominated books (ask for donations for KBA book grants)
- coordinating book grant program (collecting and reviewing applications, putting together book grant "sets"; identifying holes where we need to order books to make complete sets)
- coordinating ordering and sale of KBA supplies
Ideas for Master List subcommittees:
- Create mentorship guidelines for committee chairs: before they "retire," Master List commitee chairs should spend one year co-chairing the committee with their successor
- Create size guidelines for official committees: committees should have at least ?? people and no more than ?? people
- committees should have no more than 2 official student members (though adult members are welcome to bring input from students they know to the table!)
- Create clear expectations for committee chairs
- committee chairs should have a record of active participation in the KBA program
- Create clear expectations for commitee members
- should attend at least ?? committee meetings per year
- should commit to reading and commenting on ?? books
- Create guidelines for selected books?
- must be read and deemed excellent by at least 2 members of the master list committee
